Aesc reversed

Aesc is the dipthong “ae”
The ash is exceedingly high and precious to men.
With its sturdy trunk it offers a stubborn resistance, though attacked by many a man

Aesc reversed symbolizes that today, there is a grounding, a descending of energy, thoughts, and feelings that were once perhaps scattered or flightly, now are being focused, and perhaps a little obsessed with the physical. You might find that many parts of your life are being stimulated, as opportunities for gain present themselves, while other areas are becoming stabilized and secure, because the foundation has become more established.

My sense of Aesc is that it relates to the powers of the Upper World. The Aesir, Alfar, and the Vanir (at least, the spring/summer faces of the Vanir) and many other spiritual beings that could be identified as being Upper World, celestial, heavenly, or Astral (in the sense that Astral refers to the stars). It also connects to Ond/Azoth/Quintessence/Aether, the substance that underlies all other substance, the essence that weaves the worlds together, that is precious, but also enduring. When it is reversed, it shows the descent of those powers and forces, pouring forth into the worlds below, bring about change, inspiration, and opening up the passages, both internal and external, to the Worlds Above. It was strongly confirmed this Thursday, as a working I have been doing for the past 9 months came to a sudden and pronounced completion

The rune for today is almost comical to me, in light of my experience while doing my spiritual disciplines this morning. Moving from my meditation, I felt the strong desire to visit the Runatyr, mainly because I felt this intuition to pull out a red candle, carve the complete Futhorc into it, dressing with one of my all purposes condition oils, and light it. Wondering why I got this instruction, I sought out the Allfather, to ask, and see. Well, it’s always good to give the rune wights some love (and payment) but I also got a flash of inspiration as well, I think for paying a visit and my respects, and following the impulse I was given. In that sense, Aesc reversed speaks to power of the Gods and wights, coming down, making themselves known, and how to go about directing that power that they gift you with. As I think of the Aesc (the ash tree) as being a symbol of the Upper Realms, when it is reversed, it is the power of those realms being poured forth in very précise ways. It also points to that during the night I was having a series of vivid dreams, that occurred one after the other. This almost never happens to me, but when it does, it feels like a floodgate has been opened.

Aesc reversed denotes that the pure force of the Upper World is turned downward, flowing into the worlds below. In the sense that it is a symbol of the primal substance, often called aether, prima materia, azoth, or spirit, it isn’t free flowing and purely available, but instead is grounded into the world of substance. It’s downward flow is vitalizing and purifying existence. In a sense, it is fortunate if you turn your focus towards the material world and engage with it as an expression of the immanent divine. It is there that the energy is abundant, and in connecting with it, you can fill yourself today.

Aesc reversed is the rune for today, the day of Odhinn. To me Aesc is the rune of the upper worlds, and of the primal substance (or essence) from which men (and ultimately all things) are created from. To be drawing upon this primal substance brings ecstasy, like being touched by Divinity, inspiration, but it can also bring madness and escapist obsession. When it is reversed, it can mean the absence of those things. Today however, Aesc reversed to me indicates that this primal substance is being grounded, channeled down into the middle world, to vitalize and rejuvenate the manifested. The inspiration, the primal essence is still there, but it is becoming crystallized as it comes into the middle world. The frenetic and powerful energy is cooled off, so that it can be made useful.
